The ninth-ranked Blinn Buccaneers are headed into the Region XIV Tournament with a season-high winning streak in tow.
The Bucs defeated Lee College 25-19, 25-17, 25-21 Thursday night at the Blinn P.E. Building to end the regular season on an eight-game win streak.
Freshman Tyanna Roy posted a match-high eight kills while sophomore Cassidy Melcher and sophomore Dani Schultz each had seven.
Freshman Crystal Young dished out 18 assists while fellow freshman Celeste Ramirez added 12, and freshman Tori Estrada led the defense with nine digs while sophomore Molly Duge added eight. Melcher led the Buccaneers with four blocks.
Following the second set, the Buccaneers recognized their sophomores – Duge, Melcher, Schultz and Fisher. Duge and Melcher were both members of Blinn’s 2011 national championship team and have compiled a 61-5 record over their two years at Blinn.
“I think that’s incredible,” Blinn (23-5, 8-2) coach Erin Mellinger said. “Those two young ladies have done a great job and we’re very thankful for both of them.”
The Region XIV Conference Tournament will be held Nov. 1-4 in Baytown. The bracket is expected to be announced later this week.
