CORSICANA, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneers will be playing for pride Saturday when they host the Cisco Wranglers for Homecoming Saturday in Brenham.
The eighth-ranked Navarro Bulldogs eliminated the Bucs from playoff contention today, defeating Blinn 35-10.
The highlight of the game for the Bucs came early in the contest as All-American place kicker Kurt Walker booted a wind-aided 59-yard field goal with 12:08 remaining in the first quarter.
That field goal would prove the Buccaneers’ only lead of the afternoon.
Walker’s second field goal attempt of the day was blocked, setting up a 67-yard touchdown pass from Navarro’s Darian Godfrey to Jordan Jolly. Later in the period, Godfrey connected with Eddie Johnson for a touchdown that gave Navarro a 14-3 lead.
Freshman running back Trey Porter scored his first touchdown of the season from two yards out to cut Navarro’s lead to 14-10 with 5:11 remaining before halftime, but Godfrey struck again, finding Gerard Shillow for a touchdown pass that made it 21-10 at halftime.
Godfrey would score on a 2-yard quarterback sneak and Cameron Washington scored from four yards out to put the game away for Navarro in the second half.
Defensively, the Bucs were led by Jevon Neal, who intercepted a pair of passes.
Blinn will close its season Saturday when it hosts Cisco at 3 p.m. at Cub Stadium.
