(ST. GEORGE, UT) – The No. 3 seeded Blinn Buccaneers continued to stay alive in their quest for a national championship as they defeated No. 14 seed Lake Land College 6-3 at the 2011 NJCAA Division I Women’s Fastpitch National Championship tournament at the Canyons Complex in St. George, UT. The win capped an impressive 4-0 record on the day for the Bucs, and avenged a first round loss to the Lady Lakers on Thursday.

Blinn slugger Ariel Gomez (SO, Sealy) continued her torrid hitting in the tournament, going 2-4 and driving in two runs. Alex Yarbrough (SO, Boerne), Brittney Krchnak (FR, Sealy), Michelle Downing (SO, Clements) and Nicole Mack (SO, Lake Jackson) each had one RBI for the Bucs on the night.

Jocelyn Tacquard (FR, Sante Fe) picked up her third win of the day in relief of starter Kaci Federwisch (FR, Brenham), improving her record to 13-1 on the season. Tacquard finished the game allowing only two runs in six innings while striking out three.

Blinn (55-7) advances to play No. 5 seed Tallahassee Community College (40-21) in the elimination bracket finals Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. (CDT).
