(ST. GEORGE, UT) - The No. 3 seeded Blinn Buccaneers bounced back from an opening round loss to defeat No. 11 Volunteer State Community College 3-1 in an elimination game of the 2011 NJCAA Division I Women’s Fastpitch National Championship tournament held Friday morning at the Canyons Complex in St. George, UT. The game was completed after play was called Thursday after a two-plus hour rain delay.
Freshman Kaci Federwisch (Brenham) went the distance for the Bucs, striking out seven and limiting Volunteer State CC to just one run and five hits. The win improves her record to 14-2 on the season. She also added another complete game to her team high total (15).
After surrendering a first inning run and three hits, Federwisch retired 18 of the final 22 batters she faced. Meanwhile, the offense gave her all the runs she needed as the Buccaneers tallied two runs in the first on a two-run double by Brittney Krchnak (FR, Sealy), and tacked on a single run in the second on a double by Sara Vaughn (SO, Huntsville).
Blinn (52-7) will next play at 2:30 p.m. (CDT) today against the loser of Miami Dade vs. Tallahassee.
