BRENHAM, TX -- The San Jacinto Coyotes swept the eighth-ranked Blinn College softball team in a Region XIV Conference double-header at Hohlt Park here Wednesday afternoon.
San Jacinto won the first game 4-3, then completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory in nine innings.
Blinn fell behind 4-0 in the opener, and sophomore pitcher Kaci Federwisch took the loss despite refusing to allow an earned run in seven innings of work.
Federwisch also took the loss in relief in the second game.
Between games, the Buccaneers recognized head coach Rick Church for his 600th career victory. Church accomplished the feat on Feb. 24, making him the 15th coach in NJCAA history to reach the milestone.
The Buccaneers are now on a three-game skid after winning 16 straight. The team is now 26-7 on the season and 3-3 in conference.
The Bucs are off until March 28, when they travel to Galveston for a 4 p.m. conference double-header.
The Blinn College athletic department has built a winning tradition since 1903, capturing 26 national championships in five different sports.
