Five Blinn College softball players were named to the Region XIV Conference team and six were named to the All-Region XIV Conference South Zone team, head coach Rick Church has announced.
Shelbe Sterling, Peyton Webb, Tiffani McKnight and Shannon O’Connor each earned all-region honors, and Christa Hartnett earned all-South Zone honors.
Sterling, a sophomore catcher from La Grange, hit .264 with eight doubles, eight home runs and 25 RBIs. She was a first-team all-conference and first-team all-region selection.
“Shelbe did a great job behind the plate for us, especially in building a relationship with our pitching staff and helping them manage the game,” Blinn head coach Rick Church said.
Webb, a freshman infielder from Montgomery, batted .380 with 14 doubles, six home runs and 42 RBIs. She was a first-team all-conference and first-team all-region selection.
“Peyton was very consistent as a No. 5 hitter,” Church said. “With Tiffani, Kris and Peyton in the middle of our lineup, that was a very tough part of the order for opposing pitchers to get through.”
McKnight, a sophomore left fielder from Missouri City, led the Buccaneers with a .466 batting average. She hit 10 doubles, 10 home runs, drove in 46 runs and stole 15 bases to earn first-team all-conference and first-team all-region honors.
McKnight has signed a letter of intent to play at the University of Houston next season.
“She was the No. 2-ranked player in the entire region,” Church said. “She put up even better numbers than she did last year and she got the credit she deserved.”
Davila, a sophomore from Spring, played catcher, third base and shortstop for the Buccaneers this season. The returning All-American hit .430 with a team-high 16 doubles, 11 home runs and 61 RBIs to earn first-team all-conference and first-team all-region honors.
“She was an All-American last year and she put up great numbers again this year,” Church said. “She should have a good shot at being named an NJCAA All-American again this year.”
O’Connor, a freshman from Houston, went 19-11 this season, posting a 2.46 ERA in 202 innings. She struck out 164 batters, averaging 5.7 strikeouts per appearance. She was named to the second-team all-region and the first-team all-conference rosters.
“She threw a lot of innings and just did a really nice job for us down the stretch,” Church said.
Hartnett, a sophomore center fielder from Houston, batted .328 with four doubles, 13 RBIs and 42 runs scored. She led the Buccaneers with 17 stolen bases and drew more walks (11) than strikeouts (10) on the season. She was a second-team all-conference selection.
Blinn finished this season with a 34-20 record and reached the Region XIV Conference Tournament semifinals. The program has made NJCAA National Championships appearances in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
