Stifling defense leads Bucs to third straight win
Wright scores 15, Dixon adds 14 in 74-48 victory
CARTHAGE, Texas – A stingy defense combined with a balanced offense led the Blinn Buccaneer men’s basketball team to a 74-48 victory over Lon Morris College here Saturday.
The Buccaneers saw six different players score at least nine points, including a team-high 15 points from Joel Wright and 14 from Miles Dixon, but it was the defense that stole the show for Blinn, holding the Bearcats to just 16 first-half points.
The Bucs held a 37-16 lead by the break.
“We really played well defensively in the first half,” Blinn coach Tra Arnold said. “We rebounded well and we didn’t give them an opportunity to get on the offensive glass very much.”
Titus Rubles scored 11, Daishon Knight scored 10 and Dre Evans and Elijah Jones each scored nine points.
“I thought everybody played pretty well,” Arnold said. “We got some stops and we got to go out in transition and get some easy opportunities.”
Blinn has won three consecutive games and is now 19-5 on the season and 9-4 in Region XIV Conference play.
The Buccaneers host San Jacinto at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Heading into Saturday’s action, the Gators held a one-game lead over Blinn for second place in the Region XIV South Zone.
