Strong first half lifts Buccaneers past Fillies
Blinn sees three score in double digits
BRENHAM, Texas – The Blinn Buccaneer women’s basketball team jumped out to a 29-point first half lead on its way to a 77-63 victory over the Panola Fillies Saturday afternoon at the Blinn P.E. Building.
Freshman forward Shaniqua Dogins scored 18 points, Christie Mooney scored 14 and Rebekah Cluley added 13 as the Buccaneers rolled to the Region XIV victory.
“I thought the first half was about as good as we’ve played all year,” Blinn coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We played well defensively, we moved the ball around and we played hard.”
Mooney scored 10 of her 14 points in the first half as the Buccaneers improved to 15-4 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.
“Christie Mooney is a good offensive player and a good rebounder, so it’s good to get her some minutes,” Jenkins said. “She played well.”
Valencia White scored eight and Joslinn Douglas added seven.
Blinn made 19 of 26 free throws.
Blinn hosts the No. 1-ranked Trinity Valley Lady Cardinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Blinn P.E. Building.
