BRENHAM, Texas – Four Blinn Buccaneers scored in double digits, but it wasn’t enough to top an equally hot-shooting Tyler Junior College squad Wednesday in an 81-79 loss at the Blinn P.E. Building.
Sophomore guard Denise White scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Buccaneer women’s basketball team, but free throw shooting proved the difference as the Buccaneers were 9 of 16 and Tyler made 16 of 23 from the charity stripe.
The loss ended a five-game win streak.
“I thought we played hard defensively, they just made good plays,” Blinn (14-3, 3-3 Region XIV) coach Jeff Jenkins said. “They’re very good offensively.”
Cecilia Okoye led Tyler with 24 points, while Blinn’s Shaniqua Dogins scored 17 and Miki Turner and Joslinn Douglas each added 10 for the Buccaneers.
The game marked Blinn’s first loss since Dec. 7.
“If you’d have told me we would score 79 going into it I’d have thought we were going to win,” Jenkins said. “We just couldn’t stop all of their offensive weapons.”
The Buccaneers will be on the road Wednesday as they face Region XIV Conference foe Paris Junior College at 5:30 p.m. in Paris, Texas.
