Bryan-College Station, TX (June 2, 2013) -- The Brazos Valley Bombers are on fire this season after winning their first four games of the season on the road. Sunday evening the Bombers took down the Texas Marshals in Dallas with a score of 4-2.
After a blank opening inning for both teams, the Bombers came out strong in the second with a double by left fielder Herb Romero that brought home right fielder Graham McIntyre, who had previously reached first on a walk. Shortstop Matt Eureste then also cranked out a double that brought Romero around to score. With third baseman Anthony Soriano at the plate, Eureste stole third, then was able to score on a hit by Soriano. The Marshals were unable to return any hits or runs, so the inning ended with the Bombers leading 3-0.
With no advances from either team in the third, the fourth saw the only runs of the game for the Marshals. After allowing three walks, the Marshals were able to score on a single that brought home first baseman Zachery Marberry. The second run came in when left fielder Ryan Lombardi was able to score on a Bomber error. At the end of the inning the Bombers lead was cut to 3-2.
In the top of the fifth the Bombers added cushion to their lead when McIntyre was able to drive in designated hitter Connor McMullin on a single. With a score of 4-2 the Bombers were able to lock up the Marshals for the remainder of the game. Bombers pitcher Mason Justice got the win after pitching four innings, and Nick Johnson got the save for shutting the Marshals out in the ninth. Other pitchers for the Bombers were lefty Rex Hill, who pitched the fifth, sixth, and seventh, and Chase Hawkins, who held the Marshals in the eighth.
The Bombers are now 4-0 on the season and continue the action versus the Woodland Strykers on Tuesday, which is opening day at American Momentum Ballpark! Game time is set for 7:05pm.
