BRYAN -- With another Texas Collegiate League season now in the books, teams are preparing for the playoffs and their chance to make a run for the TCL Title. After enjoying spectacular individual seasons, Nick Anders, Todd Cunningham and Dustin Rasco were selected to the 2008 TCL All-League Team today. The awards demonstrated the hard work and dedication that the players showed each and every night.
After enjoying a breakout season at Temple Junior College, Nick Anders became a vital cog in the middle of the Bombers batting order on his way to being named TCL Second Baseman of the Year. Playing in more games (44) than any other Brazos Valley player, Anders hit .279 with seven doubles, 11 stolen bases and a team-high 23 RBI. He also drew 32 walks, which was second on the team behind Zach Grichor. Next season, he will be taking his skills to Texas A&M University to play for the reigning Big 12 Champions.
Before he suffered a back injury midway through the season, Cunningham was quickly on his way to being the TCL Freshman of the Year. Despite missing 10 games, he still managed to finish third in the TCL with 44 hits. He was the ideal leadoff man, capable of getting on base at opportune times and putting himself in position to score runs. Cunningham finished the season with a .310 batting average, 28 runs, seven doubles, 17 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
Rasco quickly established himself as one of the most dominant closers in TCL history with his devastating array of pitches. His nine saves tied the TCL record and he limited opposing hitters to a .197 batting average, while compiling a 1.42 ERA in 13 appearances.
