BRYAN- The Second Annual Fan Fest came to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark today and was a huge success, with nearly 500 people in attendance. Texas A&M’s Brett Parsons awed the fans with a come-from-behind victory over Alan Harris in the Home Run Derby, slamming six pitches out of the ballpark.
With Claire Domingue, Ben Morris and the Great American Boxcar Chorus, and Stan Crawford playing music throughout the evening, the Bombers kicked off their 2009 season in style. Fans had the opportunity to enjoy the festivities at the ballpark as the 2009 Bombers took batting practice before the main event, the Home Run Derby. With games, inflatables and an autograph session at the night’s closing, the kids were kept busy throughout the night enjoying the fun.
Harris, of the University of New Orleans, got off to a fast start in the Home Run Derby with three home runs and seemed to be running away with the victory. Parsons, however, hit four home runs in the second round to even up the score and only needed one home run in the finals to capture the victory by a score of 6-5.
The Bombers have a busy week ahead of them, with Cashback Tuesday, Margaritaville Wednesday, Thirsty Thursday and Fireworks Friday all on the slate. Fans will have an opportunity to win up to $1100 on Tuesday with a variety of contests and giveaways as the Bombers face off in a rematch with the Marshals. Former Texas A&M football coach Jackie Sherrill will be throwing out the first pitch during Wednesday’s $2 Margarita night, which precedes the fan-favorite $1 Beer Thirsty Thursday night. Fireworks Friday wraps up the week, as fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a fireworks show immediately following the game. The Texas Touring Ts Club will be making a special appearance Friday as well, providing fans with a opportunity to see several original Model-T cars, which will be at the ballpark for the game.
