The Brazos Valley Bombers got back to their winning ways tonight, as they defeated the McKinney Marshals 4-2 behind a strong effort from Drew Flaniken. With the win, Flaniken improved to 4-1 on the season and now leads the Texas Collegiate League in wins.

Flaniken fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but did not allow another run until the seventh, giving the Bombers an opportunity to score some runs of their own.

In the fourth inning, Brazos Valley got on the board as Casey Dykes scored after an error by Marshals second baseman J.B. Brown. The Bombers tacked on another run to take the lead the following inning on one of Brett Parsons’ two RBI singles.

The Bombers never looked back, as Flaniken held the Marshals’ hitters in check the rest of the game. After the Bombers had already pushed the lead to 4-1, the Marshals finally scored one to cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh inning, but the Bombers’ back end of the bullpen did not allow a hit in the final two innings to ice the win.

Setup man Geoff Lomax and closer Joaquin Hinojosa have been untouchable this summer, as both have yet to allow an earned run in a combined 21.1 innings. Hinojosa pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one, to pick up his fourth save of the season.

Casey Dykes, Brett Parsons, Robby Graham, and Jesse Payne had two hits each for the Bombers, who improved to 13-10 on the season. They moved to a game within the Pump Jacks, who dropped to 14-9 after being swept by Victoria.

The Bombers will have three days off before returning home for Fireworks Friday against the Generals. Reggy the Purple Party Dude will be providing hilarious entertainment in-between innings, as he returns to Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark for the third time.
