Bombers Fall To Generals On Terrence Murphy Bobblehead Night

The Brazos Valley Bombers came up short against the Victoria Generals and lost 3-2, but Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark was hopping with excitement as 400 fans came home with a free Terrence Murphy Bobblehead.

Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson, basketball star Nathan Walkup, national champion golf coach J.T. Higgins and women’s tennis coach Bobby Kleinecke joined Murphy in throwing out celebrity first pitches.

The game was a pitcher’s duel throughout, as Travis Smith of the Bombers and Chase Cleveland of the Generals matched each other’s efforts in the first four innings. With the game knotted at one, the Generals finally broke the tie and tacked on two more runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Bombers were able to cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, but Cleveland tightened up and kept the Generals on top. Cleveland went the full nine innings, picking up his first complete game of the season.

Smith had one of his better outings of the season as well, striking out seven hitters and only allowing two earned runs in six innings for the Bombers, who dropped to 18-21 with the loss.

The Bombers will try to even the series tomorrow against the Generals on Slovacek Sunday, which features $1 Sausages and a Nintendo Wii giveaway. It is also Bark in the Park night, so bring your dog to the ballpark to enjoy the fun!
