BRYAN -- The Brazos Valley Bombers announced today the signing of two pitchers from the University of Maryland, sophomores Kyle Blackwell and Matt Passauer. The two were integral parts of the Terrapins’ pitching staff this year and they will bring a wealth of experience and confidence to the Bombers as the team looks to compete for its first Texas Collegiate League Title in its fourth season.
The team also announced that a trio of University of Tennessee-Martin players will join the roster this summer, juniors Wes Patterson and Cory Stooksbury, and freshman Alec Mills. Patterson has been impressive this season, hitting .344 with 15 home runs and a team best 64 RBI. Stooksbury has been one of the most consistent players for the Skyhawks this year, playing in all of his team’s games in 2010 and helping the team succeed with his solid defense and unselfish play. Mills has jumped right into the fray this year, appearing in twenty-three games, the second most appearances by any pitcher for the team and the most by any freshman.
Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark will also be home to two Ohio Valley Conference Champions this summer, Jacksonville State freshmen Michael Mason and Michael Flores. Mason has been called upon to work out of the bullpen for the Gamecocks this season and has responded with eight strikeouts in four appearances while Flores has shown focus as a pinch hitter and ability as a starter.
Lipscomb University freshman Blake Fonfara will also be joining the Bombers this summer. This season Fonfara has showcased his talent on the mound over his ten appearances with the Bisons and will bring the ability to work as a starter or a reliever this summer.
Season tickets for the 2010 Bombers season are still available with packages starting at $105. Single game tickets are also available and both can be purchased at bvbombers.com, by calling 979-779-PLAY, or by visiting the Bombers offices at 405 Mitchell Street in Bryan.
