Bryan-College Station, TX (June 9, 2013) – Right from the start the Bombers came out to prove they meant business. Through a walk and two errors, the leadoff batters were able to load the bases for first baseman G.R. Hinsely, who popped a sac fly to first that brought in right fielder Graham McIntyre for the first run of the night. Next, catcher Alexis Mercado was able to reload the bases with a single, setting up left fielder Herb Romero at the plate. Third baseman Patrick McLendon was able to come home on a passed ball before Romero reloaded the bases on a walk. Finally, centerfielder Blake Kopetsky advanced to first on a fielder’s choice that brought in designated hitter Brett Kauten. At the end of the inning the Bombers held the lead at 3-0 over the Marshals.
In the top of the third Brazos Valley was able to strike again when shortstop Matt Eureste knocked a single that brought in Mercado, who had previously reached on a walk. The Marshals were finally able to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, but only marked up a single run before the Bombers shut them back down.
The top of the fifth led to an absolute explosion by Brazos Valley, who successfully chalked up five more runs. The inning started out wild as Mercado was hit by a pitch, then, on a catcher error, was able to make it all the way back around to score. Later, the team held a two-out rally that consisted of two walked-in runs and a double by Hinsley that brought in both McLendon and Eureste. With no response by the Marshals in the bottom of the inning, the Bombers held the lead at 9-1.
As a last-ditch effort in the bottom of the sixth, the Marshals were able to drive in one run off of a double and single, but there was no catching up to the Bombers’ bashing. The game ended with a 9-2 Brazos Valley victory. Bombers pitcher Mike Walker, who pitched seven straight innings with five strikeouts, got the win, while Caleb Hawkins and Logan Burch also pitched an inning a piece with one strikeout each.
