Bryan-College Station, TX – The Bombers and the Strykers did nothing short of putting on an exciting show for fans Wednesday night as the lead went back and forth in a four-homerun game.
The Strykers stepped out first to put a run on the board in the bottom of the first, holding the lead over the Bombers until the top of the third inning. To start off the third, Alexis Mercado reached first on a single then was brought in on a single by Horacio Correa III to earn Brazos Valley's first run of the night. Later Correa was brought home for the go ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Brett Kauten. The Strykers responded by earning three more in the bottom of the inning on a triple and a two-run homerun. At the end of the third the Strykers led the Bombers 5-2.
To leadoff the fourth Hunter Melton stepped to the plate and delivered his first homerun of the night, a solo homer that closed the gap by one. On the next at bat Blake Kopetsky slammed a triple, followed by a double from Herb Romero that brought Kopetsky in and brought the score to 5-4. No more advances were made on the board until the top of the sixth when the Bombers took the lead. Kopetsky extended his hitting streak by reaching on a double, then Romero got on with a single. Mercado brought both runners in on a single that created the Bombers' first lead of the night at 6-5.
In the top of the seventh the Bombers were able to load the bases and bring in another run when Mercado was hit by a pitch. The Woodlands earned one of their own in the bottom of the inning, bringing the score to 7-6. Brazos Valley widened the gap in the top of the eighth when Correa reached on an error then scored on a wild pitch. Next, Melton slammed his second homerun of the night, a two-run bomb that brought the score to 10-6. Unfortunately, the lead didn't last long as the Strykers earned five runs in the bottom of the inning, including a three-run homerun of their own. The contest ended with the Bombers under The Woodlands by one, 11-10.
