In addition to the juniors, Brannon Easterling, Derek Mazzio, Andrew Hohn, and Brad Vachon, the Bombers have three sophomores returning to play for a chance to bring home the TCL championship. The Bombers are eager and delighted to announce that Brandon Bergen, Nick Johnson, and Logan Burch are coming back to the Brazos Valley this summer to show that last season was not enough for them and that this summer they want the championship! With 7 returning players from 2012's stellar team, the Bombers should be in for another impressive season.
A native from Clute, Texas, Brandon Bergen joins the Brazos Valley Bombers this summer with incredible power and passion. Last summer for the Bombers Bergen had an ERA of 2.93 with 10 strikeouts and 15 innings pitched. While at Brazoswood High School, Bergen boasted a 16-0 record and a 1.58 ERA. As a strong left-handed pitcher, Brandon helped lead the team to the 2011 Class 5A State Championship. Finishing up the season, Bergen received many awards, including First team All-State, All-Greater Houston, All-District Houston, and All-District honors.
Standing at 6'3”, pitcher Nick Johnson comes to us from Georgetown, Texas and is currently playing for Tyler Junior College. This sophomore is more than just a pitcher; he is an on field example of how to be a team player and with his experience, he could be nothing more than a huge asset to the league. Johnson often came in as the closing pitcher for the Bombers previous season because of his unique talent of being a submarine pitcher. Johnson had an ERA of 2.00 with 27 innings pitched and 16 strikeouts.
Logan Burch will also return to the mound for his 3rd season with the Bombers. With such great team diversity last summer, Burch added to the talent with an ERA of 4.40, 13 strikeouts and 28 innings pitched. As a freshman, Burch played for Cisco Junior College. Now at Lubbock Christian University, the Bombers anticipate a great season out of Burch and are confident that Logan's passion and power will carry over to the 2013 season pushing the Brazos Valley Bombers that much closer to a ring.
The Bombers start their season on the road against the Acadiana Cane Cutters on May 30th. Opening day at home will be on June 4th versus the Woodland Strykers.
