Bombers Lose 4-0 Ready to Conclude Series With Generals Friday

VICTORIA, TX -- The Bombers got back into game action tonight with the first of two with the Victoria Generals at Riverside Stadium. The game was back and forth for the first six innings with steller pitching performances by Dillon Newman of the Generals and Brannon Easterling of the Bombers, but in the seventh inning the Generals were able to break the game open with four runs. The Bombers will look to take the rubber game tomorrow which starts at 7:05.

The night was pretty tough for the Bombers offensively with strong performances by Newman and Ponder. The Bombers were only able to collect four hits on the night. Left fielder lead the game off with a single to leftfield. Two of the hits came in the fifth and sixth innings on doubles by shortstop Nick Smelser and second baseman Corey Toups respectively. The final hit came in the seventh inning on a rightfield single by right fielder Quinton Urban.

The Bombers got a great outing from College Station native, Brannon Easterling. Easterling pitched 6.1 innings giving up the four runs all in the sixth inning while recording a couple of strikeouts. Derek Mazzio and Logan Burch came in to pitch the rest of the game with both pitchers throwing scoreless relief with Mazzio getting a strikeout.

The pitching staff was helped out by great defense behind them. In the bottom of the first, Second baseman Corey Toups started a 4-6-3 double play. Easterling then made a nice one handed snag on a ball hit right back to him and was able to toss to first baseman Brad Porras for the out. Shortstop Nick Smelser was able to start a 6-4-3 double play in the fourth inning to get the Bombers out of some trouble. Quinton Urban followed with a nice over the shoulder catch in rightfield in the sixth inning. The final play was another 6-4-3 started by Smelser after the Generals got a runner on base to start the inning off which then cleared the bases for Logan Burch.
