The Brazos Valley Bombers received a huge advancement to their infield with the signing of four clutch defensive players from Sam Houston State University: Shea Pierce, Brandon Bergen, Andrew Godail, and Corey Toups. For the first time in school history, the Sam Houston State baseball team is ranked in all four major college baseball polls, topping out at No. 22 in Collegiate Baseball. The Bombers are confident that the mound will be a force to be reckoned with and the seams will be secured with these new additions to the infield.
Freshman, Shea Pierce, comes to the Bombers from Pearland, Texas. As a junior and senior, Pierce was a crucial part in leading Episcopal High School to the SPC State Championship. Receiving many different awards, Pierce proved how versatile of a player he can be. Shea was honored with All-Greater Houston, All-South Zone catcher and second basemen, and All-SPC in baseball as well as football. Currently for the Bearkats, Pierce is posting a .354 on base percentage with 8 hits and 4 RBI’s. The Bombers are anticipating a strong season out of Shea and are thrilled to add Pierce to the roster this summer.
A native from Clute, Texas, Brandon Bergen joins the Brazos Valley Bombers this summer with incredible power and passion. While at Brazoswood High School, Bergen boasted a 16-0 record and 1.58 ERA. As a strong left-handed pitcher, Brandon helped lead the team to the 2011 Class 5A State Championship. Finishing up the season, Bergen received many awards, including First team All-State, All-Greater Houston, All-District Houston, and All-District honors. So far this season, Bergen has 14 strikeouts in the 32 innings pitched and 3 saves. Seeing how Brandon responds to tough situations, the Bombers cannot wait for Bergen to appear this summer and help boost the team along during the run for the ring.
Coming to Brazos Valley from The Woodlands, Andrew Godail secures the Bombers bullpen with a heated 85-90 mph left-handed fastball. Godail earned All-State and All-District honors while at The Woodlands High School. Displaying much versatility for Sam Houston, Godail is a competitive force not only on the mound, but in the outfield as well. This season for the Bearkats, Andrew has pitched 12.1 innings while striking out 6 batters.
Another native of The Woodlands, Corey Toups joins the Bombers solid defense this summer. Toups is an experienced short stop from College Park High School. In 2010, Corey helped lead the Cavilers to a district championship, while receiving the District MVP award and an All-District selection. Corey’s strength has only grown as a true freshman for the Bearkats. Currently, Toups is hitting a .244 with 29 hits, 6 doubles, and 17 RBIs. The Bombers are ecstatic to have Toups join the ballclub and have no doubt that he will only bring Brazos Valley closer the TCL title.
