The Bombers fell 12-7 to the Coppell Copperheads in Game 1 of the TCL Championship. The Copperheads take a 1-0 advantage into Tuesday night’s Game 2, where the Bombers will look to even the series at one game apiece.

Bombers’ starter Josh Dean looked good until the 3rd inning, when the Copperheads led off the inning with three straight singles. Coppell’s Nick Krolczyk doubled home the game’s first two runs, and the Copperheads put up a total of nine runs in the third through fifth innings to jump out to a seemingly insurmountable 9-0 advantage.

The Bombers put up a fight in the 6th inning, scoring six total runs,
including five with two-outs, to cut the Copperheads’ lead to three, and
after another run in the 7th, it looked like the Bombers would be able to complete the comeback. Coppell killed any chance of a come-from-behind victory with three runs in the 9th inning that put them up 12-7. Though they were unable to notch the win, the Bombers were able to run through three members of the Coppell bullpen, which could prove valuable as the series progresses.

Trey Porras had went 3-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a run scored, and first baseman Jacob House had two hits of his own along with an RBI and a run. Kevin Wirth started the game at second base, but took his talents to the pitchers mound in the sixth inning, and held the previously unstoppable Copperheads’ lineup to two runs in four innings.

The Bombers will look to rebound against the Copperheads on Tuesday night at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark. The second match of the series will be FREE for fans of all ages! Come out and support your Bombers on their quest for the TCL crown!
