Bryan-College Station, TX (July 31, 2013) Todd Cunningham’s dream started in 2010, when he was one of six Bombers drafted to the MLB.
The Alabama native, out of Jacksonville State, was drafted with the second pick, in the second round by the Atlanta Braves. In 2008, with the Bombers, Cunningham led the Texas Collegiate League with a .310 batting average and finished third in hits. He also started in center field in the 2008 TCL All-Star game and was the TCL’s number two prospect according to Baseball America. Not known to hit the long ball, but is spectacular at getting on base and advancing with ease. His speed also makes him a sure handed glove in center field.
In 2009, Cunningham took his talents to the Cape Cod League where he also led the league in batting average, hits, and on base percentage making him the Thurman Munson Batting Champion. After being drafted in 2010, Cunningham continued to produce in the minor leagues making multiple All-Star teams and was announced Braves’ Organizational Player of the Year in 2012. The former Bomber started 2013 playing with Triple A Gwinnett before being called up to the majors this week making him the first ever Bomber to reach the show. Thus far, Cunningham has surpassed other spectators’ expectations, and the Bombers hope he continues to do so.
The Bombers will face the Pump Jacks for a rematch on Wednesday at 7:05 at American Momentum Bank ballpark.
