Four Bombers Named to PGC TCL Top Prospects List

September 4, 2012 – Every summer Perfect Game CrossChecker covers the nation’s top summer collegiate leagues more extensively than anyone else in the country. And every summer, PGC identifies the top professional prospects that played in each of those leagues.

This year, PGC recognized the top 25 players in the Texas Collegiate League. Four players from the Brazos Valley Bombers made the list.

Nathan Sorenson was the highest ranked player for the Bombers, coming in at number seven. Sorenson, a left handed pitcher from Texas A&M, won four out of his five starts and also appeared in 7 other games as relief. He struck out 31 players with 3 saves and a 1.67 ERA. Sorenson, now a junior will be eligible for the 2013 draft for the first time since he was selected by The Pittsburgh Pirates in the 47th round in 2010.

Outfielder Brandon Wood came in number 8 on the TCL top prospects list. Wood, now a senior at Texas A&M, played in 46 games for the Bombers with 30 RBI's and a .274 batting average. He was also selected to play form the North TCL All Star Team.

Next on the list at number nine is right handed pitcher Kyle Martin. He started and won two games for the Bombers this season. Wood had 18 strike outs with a 1.9 ERA. Martin last drafted in 2012 by the Chicago White Sox in the 36th round will be returning to Texas A&M for his senior year.

Last on the list for the Bombers was infielder James Wharton at number twenty-four. Wharton was one of the top five in batting with an average of .308, with six home runs, 15 doubles and a slugging percentage of .538 of the course of 42 games. He also tied for home runs with three others in the TCL. He also won the 2012 All-TCL Team award for first base. He is now a senior at Cal State in Los Angeles.
