Four more players from last season's team will sport Bombers' jerseys this summer. Brennyn Smith, Casey Dykes, Geoff Lomax, and John Cannon will be on the field for the team's quest for a TCL championship.
Brennyn Smith was the best hitter on the roster this year at Sul Ross State University, where Smith played primarily at third base. There Smith led the team with a .417 batting average, five home runs, 32 runs batted in, and 15 doubles, while starting in all 36 games. His performance made him an All-West Division First Team player for the American Southwest Conference. Last year with the Bombers Smith had 26 hits in 27 games, resulting in a .260 batting average.
Casey Dykes started all 55 games for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers this season, mostly as a third baseman, where he hit .279 with 28 runs scored. As a Bomber in 2010, Dykes hit for a .256 average with 15 runs scored in 37 games.
Geoff Lomax recently finished his junior season at Hendrix College. There Lomax struck out 7.84 batters per nine innings in 10 appearances on the mound.
John Cannon wrapped up his junior year at the University of Houston, where he stared all 56 games and hit for a .286 batting average with 30 runs scored. A strong defender, Cannon caught 23 of 34 would-be base stealers for the Cougars. This will be his third stint with the Bombers, and Cannon's looking to build on a 2010 campaign where he posted a .306 on-base percentage with 14 runs and 14 RBI.
These four veterans will provide experience to the roster as the Bombers look to make a run at the TCL title this summer.
The Bombers' home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, June 1. Tickets are available now, and start as low as $5. You can purchase tickets online atwww.bvbombers.com, by phone at 979-779-PLAY, or at the Bombers offices at 405 Mitchell Street in Bryan.
