TCL Home Run Derby title goes to Coppell's Nick Smelser

BRYAN, Texas -- Coppell's Nick Smelser beat Victoria's Trent Wagner in a swing off of the home run derby at the Texas Collegiate League All-Star Game hosted by the Brazos Valley Bombers Monday.

The two each hit one homer to advance to the finals of the derby. They both then hit two out of the Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark to remain tied and advance to a 5 swing "Swing Off."

Wagner, a designated hitter from Texas A&M-Kingsville, could not hit a homer but Smelser, who plays for Midland College, hit one to win it.

Smelser takes home the trophy as the TCL home run derby champion.
