BRYAN, TX -- It is with great pride that the Brazos Valley Bombers announce the inclusion of three of their players have been rewarded for their outstanding seasons with TCL hardware. Damien Rivera took home the TCL Pitcher of the Year award, Trey Porras was selected as the top first baseman in the league, and Garrett Shepperd was honored as one of the best relievers.
Rivera was a perfect 7-0 with a 2.01 ERA on the season, which placed him tied for the league lead in wins and just behind teammate Alec Mills for the top ERA. Following a dominant stretch on the mound in July, Rivera was received the TCL Pitcher of the Week award in consecutive weeks, beginning a four week streak of Bombers’ pitchers receiving the award.
Porras became the Bombers’ second consecutive first baseman to receive the TCL’s award, following Wes Patterson from 2010. Porras led the league with a .344 batting average on the season, hitting almost exclusively from the #3 spot in the order, and was recognized in June with the TCL Player of the Week award.
Garrett Shepperd became the second Bomber in three seasons to be named as the league’s top reliever, joining 2009 reliever Joaquin Hinojosa. The righty set the team’s all-time single-season record for saves in a season with 11. He struck out 19 batters in 19.2 innings pitched on the year, and posted a 1.42 ERA.
These players look to lead the Bombers in their quest for the TCL crown, which begins tonight at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark against the East Texas Pump Jacks.
