The Brazos Valley Bombers’ best season over the franchise’s 6 years may have just ended, however the Bombers have more to add to the season highlights. The 2012 All-TCL Team, voted on by the league’s head coaches, was released yesterday, and two Bombers’ players, Brennyn Smith and James Wharton, as well as the Bombers’ Head Coach, Coach Dixon were named to the team.
Bombers’ first year Head Coach, Curt Dixon, grabbed the honor of TCL Coach of the year. In his first year as the Bombers’ coach, Dixon and the Bombers successfully captured the second-half division title, a spot in the TCL Playoffs, and secured the best overall record in the final week of the season. Going 39-21 in regular season play, Dixon’s Bombers set a franchise record for wins in a season.
Brennyn Smith was named the All-TCL Team third baseman. Smith led the league with 42 RBI and 41 runs scored, and he tied with Bombers teammate Wharton and two others for second in the TCL with six home runs. Smith had a record breaking season for the Bombers this season, breaking the records for Runs, Home Runs (tied with Wharton), RBI, and Total At-Bats for the Bombers.
First year Bomber, James Wharton, also snagged a spot on the All-TCL Team on the opposite corner of the infield, as first baseman. Wharton was among the top-5 in batting (.308), home runs (six), doubles (15), and slugging percentage (.538) in the 2012 season. Wharton also made his mark in the Bombers’ franchise record book this season. Wharton broke the records for Doubles, Home Runs (tied with Smith), and Slugging Percentage.
The Brazos Valley Bombers are proud to congratulate Coach Curt Dixon, Brennyn Smith, and James Wharton on this achievement and all the success they had this 2012 record breaking season in the Brazos Valley.
