News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Ashley Brown. The Iola senior has a 3.7 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in her class. Ashley is extremely involved in her school and community. She is the president of the FCA, Student Council, and FFA. She also serves as the Vice President of the National Honor Society. Outside of school Ashley is the student representative on the mission board for the Bedias Baptist Church. She has also helped to oraganize yearly blood drives, and she's volunteered at the Sunshine center in Madisonville. Ashley has also participated in the KBTX food for families food drive the last 3 years. And it's her willingness and intelligence that helps everyone around her..
“Ashley's real smart, she works hard, she comes to get help if she doesn't understand a concept, she asks the right people the right questions, but she's not afraid, and not so selfish that she tries to keep it to herself, she's willing to help others figure out what's going on. ”
Athletically, Ashley is a 4 year member of the Lady Bulldog volleyball team. She helped the squad make it to the state tournament for 2 of those years. Her sophomore year she received 2nd team all district and all academic honors, and last year she was a first team all academic, all district honoree. Ashley's athleticism isn't her only contribution, though, to the Iola volleyball team.
“A great deal of Ashley's importance to our team is off the court. She's a great leader, always makes great grades, she's a member of every organization we have on campus, I believe, and she's a great kid, and the kids will follow her example, so our kids are always doing what they're supposed to on time, you have to have people on your team like Ashley who are examples in the classroom, and examples on the court.”
“Athletics has been a major part in the person I am today, basically the determination the drive, the responsibility, because if you don't have your grades up that's a big part of it, you're not able to play, and so you always need to make sure you're on that, and it's just taught me a lot of responsibly, and its something that I just love to do.”
Ashley plans on attending Texas A&M university.
Congratulations to Ashley Brown of Iola High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
