News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Kayla Lawrence. The Cameron senior has a 100 average and ranks 4th in her class. She's received awards from the Anatomy/Physiology, telecommunications, Biology and Spanish departments, and a member of the A honor roll. She's also had perfect attendance and received the "Y" award. Kayla plays the violin, and through her church is a member of KJZT juniors, and the Catholic Youth Organization. Kayla isn't one to take the easy road, and class load is proof of that.
“She's a senior, and she didn't have to take physics, she's the only senior in this class who decided to go ahead and get that fourth science.”
“I know it's something that I didn't have to do, but for college preparation I figured it was best not to skip a year, and then go straight into college and not have any idea what was going on, so I think this will give me better preparation for the future.”
"I think if I was on a committee for college looking at her, that that would mean a lot that she was really going out and getting it while she can, and for a job, if I had to choose to hire any of the seniors she'd be right at the top of my list because I know she's really dedicated to it.”
Athletically, Kayla is a 2 year member of the YOE varsity volleyball team, and one of 2 seniors. She's also a member of the varsity tennis team. Kayla's experience on the court helps her to be more than just a vocal leader, she works hard to keep moral up, and to lead by example.
“It's wonderful to have someone like Kayla, you want all of the younger kids to look up to her, she's going to work hard whether you're watching her, or not watching her. She's going to do what it takes to improve everyday and you know that's what you hope the younger players would aspire to do as well. ”
“In anything I do, I always try to give it one hundred percent, because I know that it will help me, and it's how people see me to. I want people to see me, that's the best I can be, not giving 50% one day and 80% percent the next day, and so and so on everyday, I want to give 100% everyday."
Kayla is considering attending Sam Houston State University or Texas A&M, but is currently undecided.
Congratulations to Kayla Lawrence of Cameron High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
