News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Patricia Munoz. The Somerville senior has a 3.8 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in her class. She's the president of the Interact Club, secretary of the Student Council and the National Honor Society, and member of the FCA, the Flag Core and Cheerleading Squad. Patricia also volunteers with her church to help organize 5th quarter gatherings after football games. On top of being involved in extra curricular activities, she's also enrolled in dual credit classes, and was awarded student of the year both in World Geography and world history.

“Patricia is great, always creative, she's got kind of out of the box thinking. I think when she gets to college, and has to start thinking out of the box and it's not standard classroom, the way the high school's set up, she's going to have an edge, because she can already do that, and she's already taking college classes, her senior year, so that's going to help her a lot to.”

Athletically, Patricia is a member of the volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, and track teams. She received All Team Academic honors last season for basketball, and was voted Most Valuable Player for track. Her good attitude and work ethic are qualities that she passes down to the younger players on her team.

“Patricia is a very dynamic player, she adds a lot of enthusiasm and support to our team. She's one of the first ones that goes and helps the other girls when they make a mistake. She's always encouraging them to keep their heads up and to do a better job. She's a very positive leader on the team, she very rarely gets down and gets negative, but she is probably her hardest critic, nothing that she does is good enough for her, she's always striving to do better.”

“I look at athletics as if it's my life. I live for volleyball, live for basketball, everything, and if I can't do that, like, I have to do schoolwork before that, and so being able to play volleyball and all that, I have to excel in my classrooms, so that pushes me further.”

Patricia plans on attending Sam Houston State University after graduation.
