News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Meredith Shaw. The Buffalo senior has a 3.74 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in her class. She's the president of the national honor society and the spanish club, and serves as the vice president for the student council, and secretary of the senior class. Meredith was a state qualifier for UIL one act play, and Cross X debate. Not only does she participate in school activities, but she's very active in her community as well. Meredith is a vacation bible school instructor, and has helped with red cross blood drives, and community food and toy drives. Meredith's willingness to help her classmates and community has certainly impressed her teachers.
"As a person, its the kind of leader I want to see here tomorrow," said Marjarita Reedeer. "Teaching and giving of themselves to others, so that they to can have the same opportunities that she's getting and she's giving."
Athletically, Meredith plays varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball. Last year she received All District and Academic All district honors for all three sports. Her work ethic and positive attitude are just some of the things that athletics has taught her.
"It gives you motivation," said Shaw, "and things you learn in the gym, you can also apply to other parts of your life, like, you know you're going to have to work hard and you're going to have to stay after. It's just to not ever give up and not count anything out, if you work hard and give it your best you can't really be disappointed and you can apply that to other parts of your life to."
Meredith's atheltic and academic success are both things to be proud of, especially for her basketball coach.
"Course I always celebrate, when any of our students are recognized," Said Ron Shaw, Meredith's father and basketball coach, "but certainly its special to see your own daughter get recognized for being not only a good athlete, but a student, and you know contributing to the community and to the U.I.L. Events, and some of the leadership positions at the school. It's certainly something that I am proud of."
Meredith plans on attending Texas A&M Commerce and major in journalism.
Congratulations to Meredith Shaw of Buffalo High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
