Classroom Champions 12/17 -- Christopher Ramirez

News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Christopher Ramirez. The Calvert senior has a 3.0 Grade point average and ranks 2nd in his class. He is a 4 year member of the Calvert Trojan band, an officer of the FFA, a member of PALS and the Covenant Family Church Youth Group.

"He's a fine young man," said Michael Temple, High School Teacher. "He gets involved with school activities and he's always there to help when you need it, he's got a smile on his face and he's the type of person you'd like to have as a friend."

Athletically, Christopher plays football, basketball, and runs track. Last year he was voted Defensive MVP for basketball and was a Regional qualifier for the mile relay. Even though this is Christopher's first year on the football field, his determination and leadership helped contribute to the Trojan's successful football season.

"Chris is a very intelligent and coach-able athlete," said Coylin Grimes, Trojans Head Football Coach, "that's earned respect not with his teammates but his coaching staff as well its been a plus to this football program, not only his play on the field but his leadership outside the football field and also the classroom as well. He's just been a great leader for not only for his fellow classmates, but a lot of our younger kids as well."

"I always wanted to be a role model," said Christopher, "because people look up to athletic people. They are role models, very often, like, I have role models that are athletic. Like Colt McCoy and Vince Young, they're my role models, the way they carry themselves on the field, so I tend to carry myself in a respectful way towards others, so they can look up to me as an athletic person."

Christopher's involvement in his school and multiple sports has helped him learn some important life lessons.

"Athletics has always given me that drive," said Christopher, "and not to give up, to keep digging and something good is going to come out of it."

Christopher plans on attending Texas Wesleyan University to begin working toward a career in physical therapy.

Congratulations to Christopher Ramirez of Calvert High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
