News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest classroom champion Sydney Swearingen. The Bremond senior has a 3.79 grade point average. She's the president of the senior class, member of the FCCLA and the FCA. She's also been involved with 4-H for ten years. And her teachers see that her positive attitude and assertive approach to learning has helped help her both on and off the court.
"She brings a lot of enthusiasm to our classroom, I can understand why on the basketball court she's such a physical presence, because you bring her in a classroom she's extremely inclusive, she brings in all the other students in the class, always invites them in to understanding things and she's always part of the action."
Athletically, Sydney is a 4 year letter winner in volleyball, basketball and softball. She received 1st team all district honors in volleyball the last 3 years, and was the captain of the volleyball team the last 2. In basketball, she was the newcomer of the year her freshman year, and received 1st team honors her sophomore season, and 2nd team honors her junior year. In softball, Sydney received 1st team all district honors her freshman year, and 2nd team outfielder honors her sophomore year. Along with participating in athletics through school, she's also been a coach and a referee for little dribblers and little league games.
"Athletics is like everything in my life, so, from little dribblers to now, its just, basketball is me, I guess, and I take what I do here into softball and volleyball and everything else I do."
"I would have to say Sydney is a very aggressive player, she works hard, she's competitive, she likes to compete, when you have something you want, when you see a goal or something you want to achieve, and the type of person that she is, you know she sees that, and she's gonna do what she needs to, she's going to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal, and so that being aggressive, that I see it I want it I'm going to do what I have to do to get it type person."
Sydney is looking forward to continuing her athletic career at Texas State University.
Congratulations to Sydney Swearingen of Bremond High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
