News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Pierre Flemings. The Hearne senior has a 3.46 grade point average and ranks 6th in his class. He's a member of the National Honor Society, is on the all "A" honor roll, has perfect attendance, and is dual enrolled in college courses. He is a member of Hearne High Schools Student Leadership Class, he helps to tutor 7th graders at Hearne Jr. High, and can also be found volunteering for the city and at the local nursing home.

"Pierre is a very excellent student, he's always one of the students who I can call on to answer questions in my class. He's also very fun to work with. Lately we had a couple of group projects where they had to create their own business and I could see where he really took charge of the group and was a leader. "

Athletically, Pierre is a 3 year member of the Eagle varsity basketball team, and received the All Team Christmas Classic Award. And he is the only player returning from the '08 state tournament team.

"Pierre brings the leadership, he's the only guy returning from the team that we lost to New Waverly. He's the only one bringing back the playoff experience that we have, all my kids are young, and he just brings back that leadership."

Even though he has to deal with physical struggles, it doesn't affect his willingness to give his all on the court, and help his teammates.

"The thing that drives me to help my teammates...I'm like the point guard of the team and the point guard leads the team, so I try to lead them in class work and try to help them so they don't flunk out so we can make it to the playoffs and try to win."

Pierre plans on attending Sam Houston State University and obtaining a major in Business Accounting.
