News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Emily Smith. The A&M Consolidated Senior has a 4.31 grade point average and ranks 21st in her class. She's the Secretary of the National Honor Society, a State Qualifier for Business Professionals of America, a 2 year member of the Brazos Valley Symphony Belles, and has been on the Academic Honor Roll her entire high school career. Emily's willingness to work hard is also extended to her fellow classmates
"The students look up to her, if they have questions they don't feel bashful at all about asking her to help them out. She's very well liked, a very strong leader, a positive leader in the classroom, one that I would love to have replicated throughout all of my classes."
Athletically, Emily is the team captain of the Lady Tiger soccer team. Her sophomore year she tore her ACL and had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation in hopes of trying to return to the soccer team for her junior year. She ended the season number 2 in goals and was named a 1st team All District selection. But she suffered that same injury after her junior year and had to undergo the same process again in hopes of returning for her senior year. Her hard work and diligence to return to the soccer field has certainly been seen by her entire team.
"She's gonna work hard, as a leader, a senior in our program and as a captain. When she works hard and leads, the team falls in line with that. They have confidence in her, and in her desire, in her willingness to put forward110% whatever the situation is."
"It's definitely given me the perseverance and determination to finish and not give up. I think that definitely carries over into my other life and my school work, and my personal life and I think its just a great skill to have for the future."
Emily has been accepted to the Texas A&M Mays Business School, where she plans on beginning her course work next fall.
Congratulations to Emily Smith of A&M Consolidated High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion.
