News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Drake Jones. The Leon High School senior has a 3.4 Grade Point Average and he's ranked in the top twenty percent of his class.

Drake is a member of the football, basketball, baseball, and track teams. He has received Academic All-District honors in all sports. Drake has also received 1st and 2nd All-Distict honors in football, basketball, and baseball. He's also his Senior Class Treasurer, a member of UIL, FCA, FFA, and the National Honor Society. Drake is also very active in his church where he serves as a youth officer.

"Drake knows whatever has to be done has to be done. And he's going to do whatever he needs to do to make that happen. If he gets home late from a game, and knows he has a test the next day...He studies early in the morning, he comes in before school; he does whatever he has to do to make sure he is successful. And that's one of the things I think helps him in his athletic career is, he doesn't mind the hard work. He goes above and beyond to make sure he is a success in whatever he does."

"Drake is a special athlete for us. He's made an outstanding contribution for us these last four years. He's epitomized the type of athlete that we hop to have. He's great in the classroom, he's a good leader, and he's the kind of person you want on your football team, baseball team, basketball team, whatever sport he's participating in because you know you don't have to worry about what Drake is doing. He's gonna always be pushing towards a common goal, and he's gonna be trying to get everyone to come in that same direction."

"I like to lead vocally. Sometimes the younger kids don't like it a whole lot. I get picked on; I get called Coach Jones a bunch. I kind of take that as pride. Because for me that means I'm trying to help them do something that right now they're not seeing it, but maybe later on when they get older...and they start to see it the way I do; they'll understand what I was trying to say to them when they were younger."

Drake plans on attending and graduating from college after finishing high school.

Congratulations to Drake Jones of Leon High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
