News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Brittanie Gaas. The Somerville High School senior has a 3.7 GPA and is currently ranked in the top ten percent of her class.
Brittanie is a member of the volleyball, basketball, softball, track and tennis teams. She has received All-District awards in softball, volleyball, and basketball. Brittanie was also the 2012 Homecoming Queen and a member of the Cheerleading squad. She also received Academic All-District and All American awards. Academically, Brittanie is a member of the Student Council, FFA, Interact, National Honor Society, 4H, KJT, and SPJST. Brittanie is also very active in her church youth group and community events.
"Brittanie's a great student. She's fun to have in class. She's so energetic, and she's a hard worker, and she's really a pleasure to be around. Brittanie just works hard in class as soon as she gets in the class; even if she doesn't have a chance to complete everything the night before because of a game or practice. Then she just completes it as soon she comes into class and works hard while she's there. And I'm sure there have been plenty of late nights where she's finishing up papers, and finishing up homework, or studying for tests…She just takes it as it comes and she just works as hard as she can."
"It seems to come natural for her to take that lead role. She tells everybody were to go and how to be there. And there's been a couple times she hasn't learned a play that I thought that they learned. She literally blurted out we didn't learn that play right in the middle of the entire game. Which was quiet hilarious to everybody else; it was comedic. But overall she has been doing a great job. She tells everybody which way to go defensively and offensively, and tells everybody kind of what I expect of them. And so it's been a great ride so far."
"Become a leader has been a pretty good struggle for me. It didn't start out easy. From not really playing basketball that much when I was younger; then starting in junior high it got a little bit easier and easier. And now in high school it started it out rough again in Freshman year; when all we had was freshman on our varsity team. And now it's gotten easier having more people that you've played with in the last four years."
Brittanie plans on attending Tarleton State University and majoring in Education.
Congratulations to Brittanie Gaas of Somerville High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
