News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Stormy Spikes. The Normangee High School senior has a 3.8 GPA and is currently ranked fourth in his class.
Stormy is very active in sports at his school. He plays football, tennis, basketball, baseball, and also runs track. He was the Offensive MVP, the District Defensive Player of the Year, and an All-State selection in basketball. In Baseball, Stormy was an All-District selection, and in track, he was a Regional Qualifier in the Boy's 200m's. Stormy is a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, FCA, and the Texas ACT Council. Stormy has received numerous academic awards such as: the Pride of Normangee Award, American History and English Awards, and the Texas Student Achievement Award.
“Well it doesn't surprise me that Stormy's a really great athlete and a leader on the court, because he's that kind of student in the classroom. He always works hard; is willing to help others when they need help...Very dependable reliable; exactly the kind of student that I'd want to have in my class.”
“He's not a big rah, rah guy! He's not gonna be a guy to give a speech, but if something needs to be said he'll say it. For the most part he comes ready to work everyday and gets out here and kind of lead by example more so...The way he plays the way he goes about himself...The way he handles himself on and off the court...Just really been a good role model for these younger guys.”
“I think it was more harder for me than it was for anything just because I've always played as a younger player on the team. And this year, being one of the only seniors on the team having to step up and lead the other guys in games when situations got tough...Was something I had to work at. It helps to know that your hard work does pay off. Even though sometimes people may not see what you're doing in the background. But if you keep doing what's right and just keep trying it will eventually pay off for you.”
After high school, Stormy plans on attending Blinn College and majoring in Engineering.
Congratulations to Stormy Spikes of Normangee High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
