News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Cori Drake. The North Zulch High School senior has a 3.6 Grade Point Average, and she's currently the salutatorian of her class.
Cori is a member of the volleyball, softball, and cross country teams at North Zulch. She was an All-District and All-s\State in softball. She was also selected All-District in softball and the Academic All-District team.
Cori is her senior class' president and FFA president. She's also a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Council, and the Beta Club. Cori is also very active at her church.
"Having a student like Cori...Well there's really nobody else like Cori. She is super super motived, shes always been really driven. I've taught her 9th grade, 10th grade, 11th grade, and she always goes the extra mile to to the best she can. Plus shes really helpful with the other students. Cori does a really good job at making sure academics come first before athletics. Although she thinks athletics is really important; she knows that thats not what she's gonna do for the rest of her life, and her grades are super important. So she puts that first always."
"Cori's a fantastic kid. One of those kids you love to have as a coach and as a teacher. I have her in math class, and I have her out her on the softball field, I've also had her in cross country...go to watch her play volleyball...She's gonna give you everything she's got....Everything, every time! I think Cori has a competitive drive. She understands she's gotta work to get better. She understands she's gotta do it. She's not waiting for somebody to give it to her; so she's gonna work her tail off to get what she wants. And that's in the classroom and on the field."
"Some parts of it is hard and some parts of it is easy. This year I am taking college classes and it's way different than high school, it's very difficult. If you don't stay on top of it you're definitely no gonna get good grades. But luckily I have a family that says "hey you better get them grades, so we can get some scholarships." I'm really on top of things because I like getting things done, I like being at the top. I like coming out on the top of my class, and I want to be number one."
After high school, Cori plans on attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to play softball and to study business management...In hopes of one day owning her own bakery.
Congratulations to Cori Drake of North Zulch High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
