News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Hilary Hoffman. The Rudder High School senior has a 4.2 GPA and is currently ranked in the top 5% of her class.
Hilary is a member of the Lady Ranger tennis and softball teams. Last year she was selected Academic All District 1st Team, 2nd Team All District, and also the Rudder Offensive Player of the Year. Hilary has also won the Rudder Heart and Hustle Award. Hilary is her Senior Class' President, she's a member of the National Honor Society, Women's Chorale, and Theater. She's also very involved with charities and her community.
"She wants to do well, she wants to do her best. She puts all her effort into everything. She's highly motivated, intrinsically, I don't ever have to poke or prod or say hey you need to do this. She does it and she does it with enthusiasm. She's very involved with school: she is in the musicals, she's in the plays, she did Rangerettes, she played softball and she balances all of her commitments really well."
"She says really strong convictions. When she feels like something needs to be done she willing to do that. And she's not gonna just sit around without giving 100%, and without bringing to the table what she thinks needs to be done that day. She's willing to talk to her teammates…And she can do that, because she's walking the walk as well. So when you bring it everyday, you gain the respect of your teammates and those around and of your coaches. As their peers and their coaches she has our utmost respect and I think everybody responds really well to that."
"Well I know that I have to do my school work to play sports. I know that I have to turn that paper in on time or I won't be able to play. Not just the program won't let me play, but my parents wouldn't let me play either if I didn't make the grades. So softball really drives me in the classroom too; because it just shows me if I can do it in here I can definitely do it out there."
After high school, Hilary plans on Trinity University in San Antonio, and majoring in chemistry to one day become a Pharmacist.
Congratulations to Hilary Hoffman of Rudder High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
