News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Austin Stephen. The A&M Consolidated High School senior has a 4.03 Grade Point Average, and he's currently ranked in the top 15% of his class.
Stephen was a member of the Consol football, powerlifting, and baseball teams. He was a 1st Team All-Academic selection in football. And he was also a regional qualifier in powerlifting. Stephen is a member of the National Honor Society. He's also won the Physics Award (which goes to the top student) and will graduate Summa Cum Lade. In his spare time, Stephen likes playing whiffle ball with his friends and volunteering in his community.
"I think Austin shows leadership both in action and in word. And the fact that sometimes he just puts his head down and gets after it and gets to work. And there's other times when his peers or his teammates, or his other students in the class need a little direction. He's willing to be vocal and stand up and say what he needs to say there. And so I think hes a leader that knows when actions are needed, and when words are needed as well."
"He's a winner! That's an internal drive that all winners have. And that's to not just be the best at one thing, but to give your all at everything you do. And that's what Austin does...He's gonna give 100% whether its a classroom, or it's in the weight room, whether we're running sprints...Whatever we're doing he's out here giving 100% to be the best person at that position."
"Being a scholar athlete; obviously there are long nights. You know getting home at midnight and everything thing and having two test the next day. But you just king of go with the blows really. I mean it is hard, it's not easy at all. We're up until three in the morning doing homework after baseball games. So it's not easy at all. But in a way it's kind of fun with the challenge it brings being a student and an athlete at the same time. It's fun for me honestly just because you can go play a whole baseball game but then you gotta study for three hours. I know it doesn't sound fun, but in the end having that success in the classroom and on the field is pretty neat."
After high school, Austin plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in Electrical Engineering.
Congratulations to Austin Stephen of A&M Consolidated High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
