News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Stephanie Piwonka. The Somerville High School senior has a 3.9 grade point average, and is currently the valedictorian of her class.

Stephanie is a member of the cheerleading squad, the Yegua Flag Corp., and she's a member of the volleyball Team. Stephanie was also a Regional Qualifier in tennis and the teams MVP. She's also a member of the National Honor Society, Interact Club, and FFA. Stephanie was also selected to thew Academic All-State Team in tennis.
Stephanie's also very active with charities and organizations in her school.

“Stephanie is very, very involved...Wants to be involved...Wants to do her best in everything she does. Very, very good student. I have very few problems with her ever...Doing her homework, things like that. Just motivated...Very motivated to do well in life and on the volleyball court.”

“I have to say she's probably the perfect kid on and off the court. In the classroom, “A” student...Always where she's supposed to be, very disciplined child. On the court, yes ma'am, no ma'am. I ask her to correct something, she's always willing to try something new. I'm proud of Stephanie being here. I only had one big girl, now I have two. She is an awesome middle blocker. And now that she's learned to hit, she's really stepped it up for our team.”

“I think what drives me to be successful in athletics and the classroom, is to always do better than I did before. Every new game I try to pick it up and fix what I did wrong. Every new test or class, I try to make that better and do the best I can in each thing.” “Being a scholarly athlete is a little more easy for me. It's kind of natural during school to keep up my grades up. And then when I started sports it was more difficult to keep my studies and focus on each sport I was doing. But I think I have a way of balancing everything, out and keeping it up.

Stephanie plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in Engineering.

Congratulations to Stephanie Piwonka of Somerville High School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
