News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Seth Smitherman. The Mumford High School senior has a 4.6 GPA, and is currently the valedictorian of his class.
Seth is a returning letterman for the Mustang baseball and basketball teams. Last season, he and the Mustangs were Class A State Runner Ups in basketball. Seth has also been a 1st Team All-District selection in basketball and baseball. Seth's other activities includes being in the National Honor Society, the Mumford Band, and participating his Church's Youth League. Seth's achievements goes way beyond sports...He is a National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist, and he made a 2320 on his SAT.
"I have never had a late piece of work from Seth and I bet if you ask every teacher her they would say the same thing. Seth is the type of person that is going to get his work done, no matter how late he is or what it takes to get his work done. He's gonna get his work done, and its always done very well. His quality of his work is extremely good."
"I've taught him since he's been in kindergarten here. He's a great kid. He's a kid that always gives 110% in whatever he does. The best thing about Seth is he serves as a good role model to kids on the team as well as young kids coming up. He's not afraid to speak up and says what needs to be said. But at the same time we really admire Seth because he leads by example. If you look out on the basketball floor, you'll see a kid diving around hustling for loose balls...Doing whatever it takes to help a teammate out and that's Seth Smitherman, leading by example."
"Being a scholar athlete is obviously a big commitment. Sure you got your late nights; sure you got nights when you wish you had less to do but its about making that commitment. Its about doing everything you can to succeed and be the best you can. Its taught me a lot about time management, taught me a lot about how to prioritize, and its taught me about whats really important and how to project myself as a person."
After high school, Seth would like to attend either Texas A&M University or Baylor University, and major in biomedical sciences.
Congratulations to Seth Smitherman of Mumford High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
