News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Elisa Williams. The Huntsville High School senior has a 5.4 GPA, and is currently ranked fifth in her class.
Elisa is the Co-Captain of the Cross Country team. She's also a member of the Huntsville Hornet Military Marching Band and the Lady Hornet soccer team. She is also the President of the National Honor Society. Elisa was a Team Regional Qualifier in cross country and an All-Academic selection in soccer.
Academically, Elisa is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the German National Honor Society. Elisa's hard work in her studies won her the Pre-AP German 3 Student of the Year Award at Huntsville High. She's very active in her community and her church. In her free time, she referees youth soccer and is a swimming instructor.
"It's hard being a scholar athlete, especially someone like Elisa who is loaded up with AP and dual credit classes. It shows a lot of balance in her life that she's kind of able to juggle being a star athlete as well as being a superstar in the classroom. Just being able to maintain the focus in the classroom, on the field, you know take care of business in terms of getting he assignments turned in on time. And then you know obviously just juggling the schedule...The demands that sports put on young adults; typically at high school. Sports take up a lot of their time; that's less time they have to focus on their academics and studies."
"Elisa or as we call her Li-Li. She is an extremely hard worker. She has become a leader on the team and someone we can count on. She plays outside midfielder or wing, and we require her to run up and down the field non-stop and she's able to do that. And she usually does it with a smile. She's a great leader by her work ethic. When you need the team to step it up though, she doesn't sat much but she says what's required of her. Elisa talks that; you need to be listening because for her to say what"s on her mind then you know you are messing up or you need to improve something."
"Soccer's definitely my favorite sport, I really enjoy playing, and I like working with the team, and playing with the ball and doing my best. And it's one of the best feeling when you score, or beat or player, or makes them fall down. I just always really set high expectations for myself and I work hard to reach them. and honestly I never realize how hard I'm working until other people make comments. I just sort of do it sort of innately because that's just what I expect of myself is to be able to reach the goals that I set."
After high school, Elisa plans on attending either Texas A&M University or the University of Texas in Austin, in hopes one day become a Pediatrician. Congratulations to Elisa Williams of Huntsville High School, this week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
