News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kia White. The Bryan High School senior has a 3.6 GPA, and is currently ranked in the top twenty percent of her class.
Kia is a member of the Lady Viking basketball and track teams. She was voted Most Academic, Most Defensive, and the Best All-Around Player by her teammates. Academically, she's a part of the Gear-Up Mentor-ship program and PAUS. Kia has also made the honor roll her entire high school career. And she is so dedicated in her academics, that she was skipped a grade and is graduating a year early. Kia is also very dedicating with volunteering in her community and helping younger kids.
"Great student in class...This is the second year of our forensics program, so its building. She does competent; very always on top of the work. For an athlete that's always a big plus, because I know how much time it takes to be on the court and be out of school and traveling and playing catch up with grades sometimes. And she's always a front runner. She always takes care of business before-hand, or if she doesn't have it right away it’s done moments after she gets back.", says Michael Zito, Bryan High Forensic Science Teacher
"Kia is a wonderful leader for our team. She's a positive person. She leads by example as well as words. She is a great academia; and she's just a great contributor to our program. She's an extremely hard worker and she is wonderful at time management. And she takes being a student athlete very seriously. So she manages that time very wisely and gets all of her stuff done." Says Beth Jesurun, Lady Vikings Girls’ Head Basketball Coach
"It can be hard a t times to try to keep everybody in line without making them feel like you’re attacking them. We try to bring everybody up and not distract them from their goals and help them out with everything. On the court, I try ti be more vocal I'm not a very yelling type of person. But I try to be vocal on the court and then off the court I lead by example. My motivation would have to be my family. I come from a long line of motivated student athletes; scholar athletes. All of my siblings were scholar athletes so, I do it for my family.", says Kia White
After high school, Kia wants to go to Texas A&M University or the University of Texas in Austin, and major in business.
Congratulations to Kia White of Bryan High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
