News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Kurtis Parker. The Centerville High School senior has a 4.2 GPA and is currently the valedictorian of his class.
Kurtis is the starting right tackle and Team Captain for Centerville Tiger football team. Last season, he was selected 1st Team All-District as an Offensive Tackle and Defensive Tackle. Kurtis was also selected to the 2A-Division II All-Region 3 Team in football.
Academically, Kurtis is a member of the National Honor Society, NSHSS, FCS, FCC, Band, and the National Forensic League. In Band Kurtis won the Directors Award...And in One Act Play, he was selected as an All Star Cast member in his district and in sone. Kurtis is very active in his church and community with several projects such as: going on mission trips, feeding the homeless, helping with Vacation Bible School.
"One thing first of all in the classroom is that Kurtis values his education and knows that is something that no one can take away from him. So whatever he does do, is definitely for his benefit. On the football field though; he takes that effort and it's a commitment to the team...So not only is he a team player in the classroom, he's also a team player on the football field. And with that drive it shows up both academically and as a athlete."
"Kurtis is just a fine young man. He's a good football player. You never have to worry about him in the classroom. He's a very responsible young man. He's got his priorities straight and he's just a pleasure to coach. He has high standard for himself, and he wants to excel in everything he does. And you can see it in the classroom, you can see it out here on the field, you can see it in the weight room...And he wants to be the best he can be at everything he does."
"At an early age my parents would teach me to do your hardest and work your hardest. And also what I learned from the Bible, you need to work your hardest in everything and represent God. Every since then when I saw those Bible verses and from what my parents have been saying, I've just always just thought I needed to work my hardest in everything that I do."
After high school, Kurtis wants to attending either Texas A&M University or the University of Texas in Austin and major in engineering.
Congratulations to Kurtis Parker of Centerville High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
