News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Tristan Like.
The Somerville High School senior has a 4.0 GPA and is currently the valedictorian of his class.
Tristan is a member of the football, baseball, track and basketball teams. For the past threes seasons Tristan has been named to the Academic All-District and All-District Teams. He also was named the Lineman of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year.
Scott Pederson, the Yegua Head Football Coach says:
"Tristan, he's a kid with outstanding character. He's a big ole boy...6'3", 6'4" around 300 pounds....He's a great person, he's got a great heart, he's just a good kid. Clearly, he's our valedictorian right now....So I think the classroom speaks for itself. He always makes sure he's got everything done in the classroom, and the teachers love him to death. On the flip side, on athletics he does the same thing for us too. He's here every single day, he's at every single summer workout, always on time, always leading the way. He's probably the most trustworthy kid I've probably ever coached in seventeen years."
Academically, Tristan is the Vice President of the National Honor Society, and the Senior Class President. He's also an FCA member and a member of the Yegua Marching Band. Tristan also helps with blood drives an many other community events.
His Spanish teacher, Theresa Perez says:
"Tristan's a very outstanding student. He's hardworking, he's very conscientious of his work and his grades... Always a good leader and positive role model on campus, on the field, in the classroom. And has a lot of respect from his peers and I think that's because he shows respect. He's a good leader vocally, he's a good leader by example. He shows everyone how to complete their work on time, turn it in. I can see him being the leader on the team whether its getting them to practice on time...Making sure they show up for practice and so forth."
After high school, Tristan plans on attending Texas A&M University and majoring in Medicine.
"I want to make my family proud and I want to represent this town well. And I have a lot of self drive in me to do well. I never feel to much pressure when it comes to balancing my schoolwork, athletics, academics and everything. I just take it as it comes and I pace myself. I try to lead by example more than by being vocal. I think that's more effective to just be a role model to everybody else."
Congratulations to Tristan Like of Somerville High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
