News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Alex Ferrara. The Milano High School senior has a 4.3 GPA, and is currently the valedictorian of his class.
Alex is a member of the Eagle football, cross country and track teams. In football, he is a 3 time All Academic selection, and a 2nd team All District selection as a linebacker. Alex is a regional qualifier in track and in cross country. Academically, he's the president of the National Honor Society, a member of FFA, Student Council, and the UIL One Act Play. Alex has received several honors in the classroom such as:
The Pre-Cal Award, the Speech Award, the Physics Award, and the Int Landscapes Award. Alex has also made the A Honor Roll every year of high school.
"Alex is one of those students that you like to have in class. He's an extremely hard worker; but he questions...He wants to do his best, no matter what it is. He wants to be very successful, and because of that work ethic he'll be successful in college. The more I watch Alex he tends to be a leader by example. But when the time is right he will step up an lead vocally. Which there needs to be a nice mesh of the two, and he does a very good job of that,"
"His parents have high expectations. His parents are very successful, his sister was first in her class, she worked extremely hard. Alex overcomes the things hes no good at by working hard at them. He doesn't except no for an answer...and he's been a pleasure to coach. We're a close knit community, there's not but 150 kids in high school so you know everybody. They went to school here since they were in the seventh grade. They're all really close knot the kids really, really get along well. And Alex is one that hey look up to because of his success in the classroom and on the field, and the track field as well."
"I never been the guy that's super flashy and leads technically in the way you would think of it. I've always just kind of lead by example and done my own thing and what I thought was good. And it kind of carries over to sports and in school and everything. I just know if I don't work I'm not going to get anywhere. I always have to put in my best effort... I'm just a normal gut, and I wouldn't be where I'm at now if I didn't work hard."
After high school, Alex plans on attending Texas A&M University and major in Accounting.
Congratulations to Alex Ferrara of Milano High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
