News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion, Jordan Vaughn. The Huntsville High School senior has a 3.8 GPA and is currently ranked in the top ten percent of her class.
Jordyn is a three year Letterman for the Lady Hornet volleyball team. She was also named 1st Team All-District last season in volleyball. Academically, Jordyn's a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Technical Honor Society. Jordyn also volunteers at her church by helping with the 48 Hour Famine, Vacation Bible School, and daycare.
"She prepares very well both for a volleyball game as well as her academics as well. A course like AP Calculus is very rigorous, a lot of homework is being assigned. It takes as much practice in a course like that as it does in a sport like volleyball. So for her to be able to balance that; to get great grades in not only class but all her classes. As well as being a dominant force...We like to call her a beast on the volleyball court. It shows great balance, great responsibility. And it just really shows that she has it all together and she's going to go beyond this high school and do great things.
"Let me tell you what Jordyn does...On the school bus on the way, Jordyn does her homework. Then whenever the Freshman or JV are warming up there doing there homework, We got in late last night about 11:15...And they will go home and do their homework. So its just part of their life. They just know that to be a scholar athlete, they have to be successful in the classroom first before they can even have the opportunity to play out on the court."
"I was always taught to work hard in everything that you do. And its really just the competitiveness in me to be the best at everything, and that's why I work hard at everything. Being a leader is definitely a mixture of learning how ro lead and being born with it. Its a huge responsibility because everyone is looking up to you and you have to constantly set a good example. Getting this award is a huge honor because all my hard work isn't going unnoticed. I give my all in the classroom and on the court...Its good to know that someone recognized it."
After high school, Jordyn plans on attending college and continuing her volleyball career. She also plans to study physical therapy.
Congratulations to Jordyn Vaughn of Huntsville High School. This week's News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
