It’s time now to crown another Classroom Champion and this week we congratulate Claudia O’Connell of St. Joseph Catholic School.
News 3 Sports would like to congratulate our latest Classroom Champion Claudia O’Connell. The St. Joseph Catholic School senior has a 3.4 Grade Point Average and she’s ranked in the top fifty percent of her class.
Claudia is the captain of the St. Joseph Cheerleading Squad. She's also a member of the basketball, track, soccer, volleyball, and cross-country teams. Claudia is also an All-American Cheerleader and placed fifth in the state track meet in the 300m hurdles, and she was a Regional Qualifier in the Discus. Academically, she's the vice president of her class, a member of the Choir, Student Council, Eagles for Life, and a Class Officer.
“Claudia wants to succeed, and she is driven to succeed. I think that’s just fascinating, when people are driven to succeed the way she and a lot of the students at St. Joseph are. I would assume a lot of it came from her parents; that she was raised well. And, I think a lot of it has to do with environment that she’s in here at the school. Where there’s a lot of emphasis on personal success and personal achievement.”
“She stepped up from the barrel last year to a vital role on our team, as a middle blocker. She's excelled in that role. Claudia's a very competitive, very intense player. She's a leader during practices and games, and a very important part of our varsity team. She really wants to excel in everything and improve everything she's doing. And I think she really wants our team to move on this year to the playoffs. And she's dedicated to do her personal part to impact the team and make them succeed this year.”
“Leading by example is really important to me, because as a senior you have younger students who look up to you. I want to be a good role model for all of my classmates. Being a scholar athlete doesn't come easy to me. Because when you get home late at night from a game or a practice; it's hard to do your homework. But you always have to get it done and have it ready to go for the next days class.”
Claudia plans on attending Benedictine College and majoring in nursing and running track.
Congratulations to Claudia O’Connell of St. Joseph Catholic School. This week’s News 3 Sports Classroom Champion!
